Rdevia + Jenifer Lewis Visit Florida Memorial University

Miami Gardens, FL: Award-Winning Actress, Activist, and Author, Jenifer Lewis will visit Florida Memorial University - Birthplace of the Negro National Anthem, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" - on Tuesday, November 1 with Rdevia.

As part of its 2022 Fall HBCU Tour, Rdevia is hosting a Homecoming Student Leadership Summit for 100 students. The Summit will feature a Q+A with Jenifer Lewis and commence with all 100 students receiving a free care package with food and resources. 10 select students will also win a copy of Jenifer Lewis' new book, "Walking in My Joy: In These Streets." Rdevia will also announce a $1,000 scholarship for FMU Freshmen facing adversities.

During this year's tour, Rdevia plans to continue their commitment to addressing food insecurity at HBCUs (a problem affecting nearly 3 out 4 HBCU Students) by passing out 250 Care Packages to students at Talladega College (Talladega, AL), Florida Memorial University (Miami Gardens, FL), and Edward Waters University (Jacksonville, FL). The Care Packages are made possible through Rdevia's generous donors and an ongoing relationship with Amaturo Family Foundation and The JCS Project. Students at all campuses were also extended an exclusive opportunity to apply early for a coveted internship with 23andMe as part of Rdevia's efforts to diversify the field of genomics and biotechnology.

Rdevia is honored to have this opportunity to work with Jenifer Lewis and bring her to Lion Country which is where the nonprofit began over seven years ago as just a student club with a few members who would sell burgers and chicken wings at nighttime after class in order to raise money to provide opportunities and resources to students in need. Today, Rdevia no longer sells food to hungry students but gives food away for free with the support of Members, Leaders, and Friends in over 20 States plus China and Ghana. Our hearts are warmed to now have Jenifer Lewis as one of our Friends and we know she will continue to fight for HBCUs in her own special way.

Florida Memorial University's Ambassador Chorale was recently featured during Rdevia's HBCU Day of Prayer presented in collaboration with the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities as part of 2022 National HBCU Week.
