2025 HBCU Scholarship Winners

Every year, we honor students who carry the spirit of HBCUs with them—students who remind us why these institutions were built, why they endure, and why investing in excellence is still sacred work. Today, we celebrate two scholars whose stories echo both legacy and possibility.

Camara Christian (Hometown: Menifee, CA) — Tuskegee University

Total Award: $2,000

A 4.0 graduate with a sharp mind and steady conviction, Camara brings leadership with both depth and direction. Her ambitions stretch toward law and strengthening the communities that raised her—an inheritance of purpose that fits right in with Tuskegee’s long tradition of building leaders.

Camara received:

  • $1,000 – Parallel Inception Grant for Leadership

Endowed by Jeffrey E. Pierce II, M.S.

  • $1,000 – Dr. E. Renee Posey Award of Excellence

Endowed by Dr. E. Renee Posey

Her path comes through clearly in her own words:

“I envision a future where my I will be in a position that will allow me to use my voice, knowledge, leadership capabilities and legal education to represent the underrepresented and advocate for justice and equality where needed. I aim to become an attorney which will place me in a position to not only practice law but also uplift my community."

Kimont Person (Hometown: Valley Stream, New York) — Morehouse College

Total Award: $500

Kimont brings a spirit of service shaped by faith, discipline, and community. As a leader in the mime ministry at his church, he teaches children how to minister through movement and message—a tradition as old as the Black Church itself and just as powerful.

Kimont received:

  • $500 – Dr. E. Renee Posey Award of Excellence

Endowed by Dr. E. Renee Posey

His words speak with the clarity of someone who knows exactly what he carries:

“My goal is to inspire individuals and reassure them that it doesn’t matter how old you are, you can be the change that people see in the world. My message to others is a message of love, compassion, ambition, and motivation. I want to be able to touch the hearts of individuals while entertaining them at the same time. The world is a better place when we can all spread peace and unity as well as embrace our differences. I enter the future with ambition. I stay optimistic and hopeful of what's to come for me. I will continue to lead and I intend to touch hearts the way I’ve been doing most of my life. I want to be the change that people aspire to be a part of. It is a goal of mine to continue bringing communities together while getting my college education. I will trust the process and in this journey I will always be confident that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

With Gratitude to Our Benefactors

This work is sustained by those who choose to give, not because it is easy but because it is necessary.

Jeffrey E. Pierce II, M.S.

Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Florida A&M University, and member of the Rdevia Board of Visitors, whose generosity established the Parallel Inception Grant for Leadership. His commitment to opening pathways for HBCU students is both intentional and immeasurable.

Dr. E. Renee Posey

A lifelong educator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, whose Award of Excellence continues to uplift scholars with both rigor and love. Her legacy moves through every student she helps propel forward.

With Appreciation to Our Scholarship Task Force

Our 2025 HBCU Scholarship Season would not have been possible without the dedicated reviewers who lent their time, care, and discernment to this year’s applicant pool:

  • Nurse Latonya Beal

  • Shardea Bowens-Matthews

  • Rev. Darias Bowers

  • Alexis Guthrie

  • Betsy Mullin

  • Mirlanta Petit-Homme, MPA

  • Dr. Michael Woodward

  • Erienne R. Lewis, J.D., General Parliamentarian of Rdevia

Your commitment ensured that every application received the thoughtful attention our students deserve.

And a special note of gratitude to Laurelle Davis, M.A., LAMFT, Program Coordinator, who skillfully led this year’s HBCU Scholarship Season. Her steady leadership and heart for students made this year’s cycle one of our strongest yet.

Our scholars rise because a community lifts with them. Our donors give because they believe in what comes next. And Rdevia continues because the work is nowhere near finished.

Congratulations to Camara and Kimont. The path ahead is bright, and they are ready. --
